Some good news today: the Senate Committee for Human Rights has approved the release of Sarmad Khoosat’s Zindagi Tamasha, which was the subject of many objections earlier this year.
Pakistan People’s Party Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar tweeted just that the committee “found nothing wrong” with the film.
“Senate HR committee has unanimously agreed with the censor board’s decision to allow the screening of film Zindagi Tamasha,” he said, adding that the censor board has their go-ahead to release the film after the coronavirus pandemic ends.
Zindagi Tamasha was meant to release on January 24, 2020. However, on January 21, the government issued directives to postpone the release of the film, saying they would approach CJ the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) for its opinion.Khoosat films filed a petition with a Lahore civil court against the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) for “trying to interfere into the smooth running, publishing screening and releasing” of the film. TLP leader Khadim Hussain Rizvi had said that Zindagi Tamasha would release “over his dead body”.

Sarmad Khoosat also wrote an open letter to PM Imran Khan regarding the harassment they faced over the release of the film.
“I am bringing this to your notice not just because my team and I are being bullied and pressurized but also this series of episodes undermines a state institution like the Central Board of Film Censors and strips it of its authority and stature.”
