Trailer for Malala Yousafzai biopic released

The official trailer for Gul Makai, based on Nobel laureate and activist Malala Yousafzai’s life, is out.

Starring Reem Shaikh as Malala, the film will be released on January 31. According to the film-makers, Gul Makai is “a story of courage that overcame fear and oppression. ‘Gul Makai’ accounts the courageous journey and struggle of Nobel laureate Malala Yousufzai, from her humble upbringing in the Swat Valley to her becoming the champion for free education to all.”

The trailer shows Malala’s life in her hometown Swat during insurgency in the area, and goes on to show her advocating for education and anti-militancy. The last scene of the trailer is particularly chilling, as it shows a school van stopped in the middle of the road as man climbs on and asks who Malala is before we hear sound of a gunshot.
