Everything you need to know about the Climate March happening now in Pakistan

KARACHI: Millions all over the world are marching to save the Earth. It started when Greta Thunberg, a 16 year old activist, announced that she will skip school every Friday to sit outside the Swedish parliament to ask for better policies on climate change. The movement spread all over the world and is now taking place globally today.

In Pakistan, the march is taking place in 34 different cities: Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Kasur, Bahawalpur, Toba Tek Singh, Chunian, Thatta, Ghotki, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Nagarparkar, Peshawar, Mardan, Chitral, Quetta, Turbat, Gwadar, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Ranjanpur, Shangla, Tamol, Jhang, Bagh, Mianwali, Killa Abdullah, Pishin and Chagai. In Karachi, the protest will start from Frere Hall at 4 pm and go on till 7 pm. In Lahore, people are gathering at the Lahore Press Club, from 3.30 pm till 8 pm, and in Islamabad, marchers will gather at the Islamabad Press Club at 3 pm and disperse around 5 pm.

According to Climate Action Pakistan, the protest is putting forth certain demands from the government: Declare a climate emergency in which a revised National Climate Change Policy should be drafted and citizens should become a part of the decision making process. The march is also demanding a global coalition where developed countries are held accountable for abetting the climate crisis.

The movement is heavily trending on Twitter, with prominent personalities urging citizens to make sure they attend the march.
