Emma Watson sets up a free service hotline for sexual harassment

KARACHI: Actor Emma Watson has taken up an initiative to help women understand their rights in the workplace according to sexual harassment and has started a free service hotline that offers legal advice to women who face sexual harassment. This is reportedly the first helpline of its kind in the UK and has been funded through donations made by the public and is backed by Time’s Up Uk, justice and equality fund and is managed by Rosa fund which targets support towards initiatives that benefit women.

According to IndieWire, advice to callers will be provided by the charity Rights of Women.

In an interview with The Guardian Emma said: “Understanding what your rights are, how you can assert them and the choices you have if you’ve experienced harassment is such a vital part of creating safe workplaces for everyone, and this advice line is such a huge development in ensuring that all women are supported, wherever we work.” The hotline will provide a platform for women who are unaware of their options if they face sexual harassment and give them the confidence to hold the perpetrator to account for their actions.

This initiative has been considered as a commendable measure of prevention by users on Twitter.
